About
Sorry! You Were Rude to Me So Now You Get No Hot Dog is a series of exploitable redraw memes based on a photoshopped image of a server or waitress at Nedick’s fast food restaurant pointing to a sign that appears to read, "Sorry! You were rude to me so now you get no hot dog." The original image shows the woman pointing at a sign that reads, "Sorry! No hamburger today. Tuesday, you know!" and was purportedly taken sometime around World War I or World War II during rationing when the government promoted the idea of refraining from serving specific types of foods on specific days. The "no hot dog" edit was posted online as early as 2013 and became the subject of redraws throughout the 2010s and 2020s.
Origin
The earliest known upload of the "no hot dog" photoshop was posted to the ladybunny Blogger[1] site on September 27th, 2013, although this is not likely the true origin (shown below, left). The image shows a server at a Nedick's restaurant holding a hot dog in her hand, the sign reading, "Sorry! You were rude to me so now you get no hot dog."
According to a 2020 Fake History Hunter[2] post, the image is a photoshop. In the article, they share the original image (shown below, right), which features the woman pointing to a sign that reads, "Sorry! No hamburger today. Tuesday, you know!" The article suggests that the photo was taken during one of the world wars and showcases how the government encouraged ideas like Meatless Tuesdays and Wheatless Wednesdays to restaurants in order to ration food.
