Spraying Beer in Papanomaly's Face is a two-panel object-labeled image macro series featuring a screenshot of YouTuber Anomaly squeezing a beer can and spraying its contents in his partner Papanomaly's face. In general, the image is used to express jokes about something that seems positive but is actually negative.
Origin
On January 1st, 2019, Anomaly posted the video "CHRISTMAS WITH ANOMALY (AND SANTA CLAUS PAPA)," which features the moment when he sprays Panpanomaly's face. The video received more than 430,000 views in one week.
Spread
Five days later, on January 6th, Redditor [1] inteNsE-- posted a two-panel image macro of before and after Papanomly has beer sprayed in his face. They labeled the image a joke about a teacher surprising their students with a movie that they will have to take notes on. The post received more than 4,500 (99% upvoted) points and 90 comments in two days (shown below, left).
The following day, Redditor[2] ojoslokos shared the image in the "/r/MemeEconomy subreddit. The post received more than 14,000 points (97% upvoted) and 70 comments in one day.
That day, Redditor[3] MadOrange64 posted the image in the /r/dankmemes subreddit, labeling it a joke about hard-to-use Pinterest results showing up in Google image results. The post received more than 11,000 points (98% upvoted) and 110 comments in 24 hours (shown below, center).
Over the next 24 hours, more people began posting variations of the format (shown below, right).
