Stop Giving Me Your Toughest Battles refers to a series of exploitable image macros based on a Wojak comic in which an exhausted-looking Wojak tells Jesus, "Stop giving me your toughest battles." The image first appeared in November 2020, resulting in new variants throughout early 2021 across a wide range of social media platforms.

Origin

On October 30th, 2020, Spanish Facebook^[3] meme page "Memes chapines para gente café" uploaded a Spanish-language Wojak comic depicting a conversation between a depressed Wojak and Jesus. The wojak says what translates to, "stop giving me your worst battles," and Jesus replies with what translates to, "you are my best warrior xdxd" (shown below). The post gained over 1,300 reactions and 3,200 shares in five months. It is unknown if this is the original or a repost.

On November 1st, iFunny^[12] user AimHigh47 uploaded an English-language version of the meme, garnering over 1,900 smiles in four months (shown below). This is the earliest known upload of the meme translated to English, but it is unknown if this is the original post.

Spread

On November 2nd, 2020, Facebook^[1] meme page Evil Niqqa Memes 3 posted a photoshopped version of the meme replacing Jesus' dialogue with, "Battles? You're just suffering bud" (shown below). The post gained over 670 reactions and 220 shares in four months. The image was reposted to Instagram^[2] that day by @trenbolone.papi, garnering over 1,100 likes in the same span of time.

The format spread steadily across social media over the course of the following months. On December 24th, Twitter^[11] user @soignevenus posted a photoshopped version of the original comic with Jesus replaced by the planet Saturn, referencing star signs and astrology, garnering over 5,500 likes and 820 retweets in three months (shown below).

On December 31st, 2020, Tumblr^[4] user daily-shitpost-bakery posted a two-panel image macro featuring a top image of the crying seal and a bottom image of the Robert Downey Jr.'s Comments photograph with the same text as Dank Dengeneracy Fails 2.0's post, garnering over 11,700 notes in roughly two months (shown below). On January 8th, 2021, iFunny^[5] user Misuzu then shared the image, garnering over 1,400 smiles in two months.

On January 5th, 2021, Instagram^[6] user @dark_iron_gains uploaded a new variation of the format about working out, garnering over 10,400 likes in two months (shown below, left). On January 12th, Facebook^[7] user Brahmin Meme Bhog uploaded an image macro featuring the text over an image by artist Abhishek Dassani^[8] depicting a god reaching from the sky, garnering over 4,700 reactions and 700 shares in a comparable span of time (shown below, right).

On January 18th, Redditor u/GGanderson554543 posted a new variation of the meme to /r/okbuddyretard^[9] featuring a photoshopped image of a Withered Wojak and Markiplier, garnering over 300 upvotes in under two months (shown below).

On March 7th, popular Instagram^[10] meme page @salad.snake then posted the Robert Downey Jr. and crying seal version of the meme, garnering over 44,700 likes in a day.
