Content Warning is a cooperative survival-horror game developed by Landfall Studio with the premise of the players filming friends in scary situations in which they encounter a variety of monsters or entities, posting the videos on a platform called "SpookTube" and hoping that they go viral. The game was released on April 1st, 2024, as part of Landfall's tradition of releasing a game on April Fools' Day, and it had amassed over 200,000 concurrent players and over 6.2 million owners of the game in 24 hours. Since its release in early April 2024, Content Warning has inspired numerous players to share their gameplay and funny clips on platforms like Twitter and TikTok. The game notably shares many similarities to Lethal Company.
History
On April 1st, 2024, Landfall Studio announced its annual April Fools' Day game, titled Content Warning, which is a co-op horror game in which you film spooky stuff with your friends to try and go viral on a platform called SpookTube. The studio also released a trailer[1] for the game (shown below), amassing more than 96,000 views and 4,100 likes in a day.
A day after the game's release on Steam,[2] the studio celebrated Content Warning's sudden virality, saying it got "over 200K concurrent and over 6.2 MILLION owners of the game in 24h." The post[3] (shown below) amassed more than 3,300 likes and 310 retweets in a few hours.
Online Reactions
Online, gamers began sharing funny clips of Content Warning gameplay, especially on Twitter / X in early April 2024. For example, on April 3rd, 2024, X[4] user @MayaModez posted a video (shown below) showing a player jumping to his death while screaming like an old cartoon character. The post amassed roughly 19,000 views and 470 likes in a few hours.

On April 2nd, X[5] user @SquiidyV shared a video expressing how it feels like playing Content Warning, which garnered over 408,000 views and 20,000 likes in a day (shown below).

Content Warning gameplay clips have also been going viral on TikTok. For instance, on April 2nd, 2024, TikTok user @evn_g_[6] posted a video of an interaction with a monster while playing with his friends (shown below, left), which amassed 201,000 plays and more than 21,000 likes in a day. On the same day, TikTok user @h2odelirioustt[7] posted a similar gameplay video (shown below, right), which garnered over 419,000 plays and 53,000 likes in a day.
