About
GameScent is an AI-powered gaming device that can generate smells of gunfire, explosions, storms and other in-game events in real time. After the device was announced in February 2024, it became a subject of jokes and memes as users imagined nasty smells the device would generate in various games and engaged in hornyposting.
History
On November 27th, 2023, the gaming hardware company Gamescent announced[1] GameScent, an AI-powered gaming device that is able to generate a select number of smells to reflect in-game situations. The base kit can generate the smells of gunfire, explosions, racing, forest and storm, with "DLC" scents including napalm, sweat, ocean and golf course. The device uses a cartridge system to create scents and is also able to neutralize them afterward.
On February 27th, 2024, several news accounts on X[2][3] / Twitter reported on the product, including viral posts by video game journalist Geoff Keighley and film news account @DiscussingFilm (shown below, left and right).

The news about the product was followed by an influx of memes in which users imagined the device generating nasty smells from various in-game situations. For example, on February 27th, 2024, YouTuber Jacksepticeye made an X[4] post imagining smelling the sewers in Elden Ring. The post (shown below, left) received over 1,600 reposts and 23,000 likes in two days.
Also that day, X[5] user @taker6233 made a post in which they imagined the device generating Scarecrow's fear toxin while playing Arkham Knight. The post received over 310 reposts and 4,000 likes in two days (shown below, right).
Other users made hornyposts in which they imagined the device generating the smell of the sweat of various popular characters. On February 27th, X[6] user @Bolverk15 posted a My Favorite meme about character Panam from Cyberpunk 2077 that received over 170 reposts and 2,500 likes on X in two days (shown below, left).
Later that day, X[7] user @TheNCSmaster made a similar post about Final Fantasy VII character Tifa Lockhart that gained over 200 reposts and 2,000 likes in two days (shown below, right).
