About

Jay Jay the Jet Plane is a computer-generated animated children's television series featuring an anthropomorphized aircraft named Jay Jay, similar to Thomas the Tank Engine.

History

The series first premiered on December 13th, 1994. At this time, the show was a live-action series, narrated in a similar fashion to Thomas & Friends (opening credits below). These episodes were released on home video under the titles Jay Jay's First Flight, Old Oscar Leads the Parade and Tracy's Handy Hideout.[1] This initial batch of episodes, which would come to be known as the Pilot Series, ended in 1996.

Two years later, on November 2nd, 1998, a new version of the series, which combine CGI and live-action footage, premiered on TLC (opening credits below). Two years later, in 2001, the reformatted series moved to PBS. The series ended its PBS run in 2005.

Reception

The second iteration of the series won a 2002 Parents' Choice Foundation "Seal of Approval." However, the series has 3.6 out of 10 rating (based on 445 reviews) on IMDb.

Jay Jay Bombing

In 2018, Instagram [2] user @icecoldmemes_ posted a photoshopped image of Jay Jay bombing a city in Syria. The image was captioned by a mock tweet by United States President Donald Trump (shown below, left). The following month, a cropped version of the photograph was shared on the /r/fakehistoryporn subreddit with the caption "U.S. Airstrike Kills 150 ISIS FIghters (shown below, center).

On March 25th, 2019, Twitter [3] user @AriElsaMax13 tweeted a portion of the image with the caption, "When you fart in an aisle at the store and you walk away hearing the screams of your victims." Days later, Redditor[4] RiCriostoir posted the tweet in the /r/memes subreddit, where it received more than 40,000 points (93% upvoted) and 200 comments (shown below, right).
