About
My Singing Monsters, also known as MSM, refers to an iOS and Android video game that's considered a world-builder simulation game where players develop groups of monsters which sing and play music. Players collect and breed these monsters across 23 islands, collecting coins along the way. It was originally released to the iOS app store in late 2012 within the Canadian market. It is similar in gameplay and aesthetic to both Pokémon and Club Penguin.
History
My Singing Monsters was created by the company Big Blue Bubble Inc. and headed by lead designer Dave Kerr.[1] It was released to the iOS app store on September 4th, 2012. Roughly four months later, on January 12th, 2013, the game was released to both the Amazon and Android app stores. In mid-2014, it was released on PS Vita and much later, in 2021, it was released on Steam. On September 23rd, 2015, the game's sequel, My Singing Monsters: Dawn of Fire, was released.[2]

My Singing Monsters consists of 23 islands that the player must explore.[1] Each island represents a different element, some natural and some variations of the natural. Additionally, each island has a set of monsters native to it. The player can visit each island and have monsters on it. The five primary, "natural" islands are Plant, Cold, Air, Water and Earth. The majority of the remaining 23 islands are considered "Mirror" islands with a few exceptions like the Tribal Island.[3]
Monsters are the other essential part of the game with the universe consisting of 226 of them. They are categorized into different classes called Natural, Fire, Ethereal, Magical, Seasonal, Supernatural, Legendary, Mythical, Dipster, Celestial, Rare and Epic.[4] Players are also encouraged to collect coins as currency in order to buy items like decorations and structures.[1]
