About

Mystery Flesh Pit National Park is an online multimedia worldbuilding project created by Trevor Roberts. The project revolves around a fictitious national park centered around an ancient massive organism in the Permian basin of West Texas. According to lore, the national park was a major tourist attraction until 2007, when an incident led to several deaths at the park, leading to the park's permanent closure. Since its debut in 2019, the Flesh Pit story has also become a creepypasta online.

History

On May 22nd, 2019, Reddit[1] user u/StrangeVehicles, otherwise known as Trevor Roberts, posted a poster(shown below) to a fictional national park on the r/worldbuilding subreddit with the title "Tourism poster for "Mystery Flesh Pit" National Park, a series I'm working on." The post was well-received, with a score of 2,107 upvotes and 120 comments in six months.

Roberts would continue to flesh out the park over the following years, with comments explaining the various facilities, organisms and personnel in the park. The park climbed in popularity in the meantime, attaining a Tumblr page[4], a TVTropes page[3] and a subreddit[5] that gained over 17,000 followers since its creation on January 19th, 2020.

The project also has a YouTube channel that uploads in-universe videos that are reminiscent of the Analog Horror genre. On January 3rd, 2020, Tor.com[3] posted a piece about the park.

On July 20th, 2021, YouTuber Wendigoon posted a video covering Mystery Flesh National Park in detail, gaining over 2.1 million views in seven months (shown below). A Tumblr[7] archive is available offering "A collection of artifacts relating to the now-defunct Mystery Flesh Pit National Park."

Translation:
"A non-official source published an adventure scenario for the popular tabletop role-playing game 'Kids on Bikes' using the Mystery Flesh Pit setting. Upon my observations I concluded it appeared to be an enjoyable experience for a standalone adventure game to be hosted in one session."

That help?
