About

Redo of Healer (aka Kaifuku Jutsushi no Yarinaoshi) is a manga and light novel series created by Rui Tsukiyo. It has been adapted to an anime directed by Takuya Asaoka. The show and series have proved highly controversial due to its plot, which often uses "revenge rape" as a key element, as well as its poor animation and unoriginal ideas.

History

Redo of Healer was first published by Rui Tsukiyo on user-generated novel publishing website Shōsetsuka ni Naro in December of 2016. On July 1st, 2017, the light novel was picked up by Kadokawa Shoten and has released nine volumes. A manga adaptation of the series began later that year.

The series concerns Keyaru, a healer in an adventuring party who is exploited by his peers and looked down upon for not having offensive power. However, after discovering powers just beyond healing magic, he decides to turn back time four years and get revenge on those who exploited him.

Anime

On November 19th, 2019, Kadokawa[1] announced that the series was being adapted into an anime series. On October 30th, 2020 the first trailer for the anime was released (shown below). The series premiered on January 13th, 2021 and was censored on all broadcasting networks.

Online Presence

The series was met with a large amount of controversy and backlash due to the revenge elements, particularly its sexual elements which have been called "revenge rape." My Anime List[2] critics panned the show, focusing on technical elements beyond its controversial themes, with critics bemoaning the unoriginal story and poor animation.

On January 6th, 2019, prior to the anime's release, YouTuber TheAnimeMan described a graphic torture and rape scene from the manga in a video harshly criticizing the story (shown below, left). After the first episode aired, Chibi Reviewers asked how that could have happened, implying it was a Hentai series disguised as a normal anime. He claimed it was more extreme than Interspecies Reviewers, another anime that was controversial for its sexual themes.
