Overview
DOORS is a multiplayer survival horror Roblox experience in which players are tasked with progressing through 100 randomly generated, pre-determined rooms while avoiding paranormal entities. The experience was created in March 2021 and released in August 2022, becoming notably popularized over the following years, with roughly 3.6 million "favorites" and 2 billion reported visits by February 2023.
History
DOORS was created on Roblox [1] on March 14th, 2021, by the group LSPLASH, consisting of users Lightning_Splash, RediblesQW and GhostlyWowzers. The first teaser trailer for the game was posted to YouTube[2] on July 16th, 2022, garnering over 822,000 views in seven months. An extended trailer was posted on August 5th, garnering over 2 million views in six months (shown below).
On August 10th, the LSPLASH YouTube[3] channel posted a video announcing the release of DOORS, garnering over 1.4 million views in six months (shown below).
Makeship Screech Plushie
On December 20th, 2022, the LSPLASH YouTube channel announced a Makeship[4] campaign to create a plushie of the game's entity Screech (shown below). The video gained over 1.3 million views in two months and the campaign was a success, selling over 6,800 plushies.
HOTEL Update
On January 26th, 2023, the LSPLASH YouTube channel posted a trailer for the game's "HOTEL" update, which was released on January 29th, garnering over 2 million views in three weeks (shown below).
2 Billion Visits
On February 11th, 2023, the @DoorsRoblox Twitter[5] page posted a tweet thanking players for getting the game to 2 billion visits, sharing a promo code (2BILLIONVISITS) to use in the shop and receive five new accessories.
Gameplay
DOORS is a first-person survival horror game where up to four players (12 in private servers) open doors in a building numbered between one and 100 and must survive the paranormal entities in each room. Each room is randomly generated, with some pre-determined rooms containing "guaranteed entities" appearing in every playthrough. Players are able to buy items to help them survive, including vitamins, keys, lighters, flashlights, bandages, crucifixes and more. The game contains over 20 unique entities (entities showcased below).
Online Presence
Throughout 2022 and 2023, DOORS gained a large online fanbase across multiple social media platforms, resulting in let's play videos, fan art and content and memes referencing the game.

Some of the highest engagement let's play videos of DOORS were uploaded by YouTubers DanTDM on September 17th, 2022, garnering over 6.7 million views in five months (shown below, left) and YouTuber Weegeepie on December 17th, garnering over 7.3 million views in two months (shown below, right).
Fan Art / Content
DOORS has inspired numerous works of fan art, mostly depicting its paranormal entities (examples shown below).
DOORS has also inspired many fan animations. One of the most prominent DOORS animators is YouTuber[6] Jeny_Punker, who posts comedic animations inspired by the game (example shown below).
Memes
The game has also become the subject of memes, largely focused on the game's many paranormal entities. Many of the memes are video edits on YouTube. For example, on September 16th, 2022, YouTuber[7] Loopi uploaded a meme compilation that gained over 722,000 views in five months (shown below).
On February 4th, 2023, Twitter[8] user @batsu_sebun posted a meme based on the game that garnered over 2,600 likes in 10 days (shown below).
