About

You're Not Peter Parker refers to a scene from the second Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer where Alfred Molina's Doctor Octopus pins Tom Holland's Spider-Man, unmasked, to a wall and says "you're not Peter Parker," referencing the fact that the Peter Parker of Doc Ock's universe (played by Tobey Maguire) looks different. Following the trailer's premiere, it became the subject of edits as an exploitable where Holland's Parker is replaced with another character after Doc Ock says the line.

Origin

On November 16th, 2021, the second trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home premiered on the Sony Pictures Entertainment YouTube[1] page and across social media. Around the 0:55-second mark, Spider-Man villain Doc Ock, played by Alfred Molina, pins Peter Parker to a wall, revealing his face. Doc Ock is from the universe of the Sam Raimi Spider-Man films, where Spider-Man is portrayed by Tobey Maguire. Ock does not recognize the face in front of him as Parker and says, "You're not Peter Parker" (shown below). The trailer gained over 37 million views in two days.

The scene inspired numerous edits over the following days. For example, on November 17th, YouTuber Free Boredom posted one of the earliest edits replacing Holland's Parker with JK Simmons from Sam Raimi's films series talking about Spider-Man, gaining over 1.5 million views in two days (shown below).

Spread

YouTuber Free Boredom released three more edits between November 17th and 19th, 2021, including edits replacing Holland with Bully Maguire, (shown below, left) Andrew Garfield (shown below, right) and Willem Defoe,[2] gaining over 1.3 million views on the former two and 493,000 on the latter in roughly one day.
