Sydney Sweeney on Hot Ones refers to an episode of the Hot Ones web series with actress Sydney Sweeney as a guest, which was released in late January 2024. Following the interview, an image of Sweeney giving a look of adoration and smiling while looking slightly upward achieved virality as an image caption format and reaction meme online.

Origin

On January 25th, 2024, the episode "Sydney Sweeney Endures a Nightmare While Eating Spicy Wings" of the Hot Ones web series premiered. In the episode, host Sean Evans interviews American actress Sydney Sweeney while both are eating increasingly spicy chicken wings. The episode garnered over 2.5 million views on YouTube^[1] in four days.

Prior to the episode premiere, Hot Ones posted a teaser of the interview on social media^[2][3] on January 22nd, 2024 (shown below, left). On January 25th, X^[4] / Twitter user @troop_hater posted a cropped image of Sydney Sweeney casting an adoring look and smiling from the teaser, captioning the post, "how my dinner date looks at me when I start speaking in flawless patois." The post (shown below, right) garnered over 1,000 reposts and 12,000 likes in four days.

Later on January 25th, 2024, X^[5] user @buzzweeyums quoted the post, writing, "How she look when I start doing my Indian guy voice after 10 beers." The post accrued over 2,800 reposts and 59,000 likes in four days (shown below, left). Also that day, X^[6] user @uncledoomer made another caption meme based on the image, with their post garnering over 1,200 reposts and 16,000 likes in four days (shown below, right).

The image achieved major virality on X / Twitter in the following days. On January 26th, X^[7] user @AlexNoonan6 posted a collage consisting of multiple copies of Sydney Sweeney's faces superimposed over each other, commenting, "The timeline rn," reflecting the popularity of the meme. The post (shown below, left) garnered over 490 reposts and 10,000 likes in three days.

Twitter Image Combination Memes based on the image also saw widespread use. For example, on January 27th, X^[8] user @itsleonessa made one such post that received over 1,100 reposts and 9,300 likes in two days (shown below, right).
