Taylor Swift Updates Prison Story refers to a series of tweets by Taylor Swift fan account @LegitTayUpdates (Taylor Swift Updates) in which the owner of the account revealed that they had recently served a prison term for refusing to enlist in the Israeli Defence Force.

Origin

On February 1st, 2019, Taylor Swift fan account @LegitTayUpdates posted a self-update in which the owner of the account notified that she will spend some time in prison due to refusing to pass compulsory military service.^[1]

On April 2nd, 2019, @LegitTayUpdates posted a self-update about being released from prison.^[2] The tweet gained over 9,500 retweets and 46,000 likes in two days. On the same day, @LegitTayUpdates revealed that refusal to pass mandatory service in the Israeli Defence Force the reason behind the imprisonment.^[3]

Spread

In the following days, the screenshots of the conversation were circulated on Twitter and other online platforms.

On Twitter, multiple posts dedicated to the owner of the account, whose real name was revealed to be Na'ama, were created in the following days. Many of these posts mentioned previous tweets by Na'ama in which she revealed that she acquired and took edible drugs^[4], punched a guard^[5] and had sexual relationship with another female inmate^[6] during her imprisonment.
