About
Testicular Torsion Wizard refers to a series of memes based around the concept of a warlock or wizard casting a spell that would twist an enemy's testicles, giving them testicular torsion. The idea started in the Dungeons and Dragons community before becoming a more universal character, as well as a part of the wizardposting trend.
Origin
The idea of a wizard being able to cast "testicular torsion" as a spell appears to have started in the Dungeons and Dragons community in 2021. On June 10th, 2021, Redditor CoralTheWaterPlant posted a conversation in /r/DnDMemes[1] they were having with their DM in which they implied that, if they learned the spell mage hand, they could use it to twist an opponent's testicles. The post gained over 1,000 points in two years (shown below).
Spread
The concept lingered in Dungeons and Dragons circles for some time after and led to the creation of an image macro in which a wizard is seen casting a "Testicular Torsion" spell. One of the earliest known posts to include the image macro was an image dump posted to Imgur on November 28th, 2022,[2] by user abbiistabbii (shown below, top).
The concept began spreading outside of the D&D community roughly in March 2023. On March 21st, 2023, YouTuber M4N posted a voice-acting clip imagining the Testicular Torsion Wizard, gaining over 470,000 views in eight months (shown below, bottom).
Also in March 2023, Redditor Cheap_Winner_2274 posted a joke with the character in /r/TwoSentenceHorror. The post appears to have been deleted, but a screenshot was posted to /r/196[3] on March 30th (shown below, top).
The meme then took off in /r/wizardposting where a variety of images and jokes related to the concept flourished throughout the year. For example, on September 19th, 2023, user notafishthatsforsure posted a joke about wizards outlawing the "testicular torsion" spell, gaining over 1,600 points in two months[4] (shown below, bottom).
