Turok Evolution Raptor as a Trans Symbol or Turok Raptor "ROOOOARRRR" refers to a series of posts using the velociraptor from the cover of the 2002 first-person shooter video game Turok Evolution and the caption "ROOOOOAAARR" in response to transphobic comments on X / Twitter, which sparked discussions about the dinosaur becoming a symbol for transgender rights. The "ROAR" posts were originally made in March 2024 by X user @CiblesGD and began to spread that month.

Origin

On March 8th, 2024, X^[1] user @CiblesGD posted a clip of MatPat positively discussing gender identity in the context of children, writing, "MATPAT IS SO BASED FOR THIS," garnering over 69,000 likes in four days (shown below).

The post attracted several transphobic commenters to the post. The poster began responding to the commenters with a picture of the raptor from the cover of Turok Evolution with the attached caption, "ROOOOOAAAAAARRRRRRRRRR," garnering thousands of likes on each response. On March 11th, the user made a post to X^[2] sharing screenshots of several of these comments, writing, "I think I figured out how to deal with transphobes," garnering over 52,000 likes in a day (shown below).

The post gained significant attention over the following days, inspiring others to use the raptor image in similar ways and discuss the image as a "trans symbol," also discussing further criticism from transphobic commenters. On March 11th, 2024, X^[3] user @SCUMFUCKSYRUP quote-reposted the post, writing, "or just STOP INTERACTING WITH THEM," garnering over 17,000 likes in a day (shown below). On March 12th, X^[4] user @henrybadger19 posted, "The TUROK evolution raptor being a trans symbol is probably my favourite thing of 2024 LETS GOOOO ROOOOARRRR 🦖 🏳️‍⚧️," garnering around 100 likes in under a day.

On the same day, X^[5] user @arthoefootjob posted a meme redrawing the Hanging Soyjak image as a hanging Turok raptor, garnering over 12,000 likes in under a day (shown below).

Also on March 12th, 2024, X^[6] user @heavyfortress posted a defense of the raptor meme, writing, "why in the hell are so many people mad at this its just someone owning transphobes with images of dinosaurs 'stop interacting with them' if nobody tells them they are on the wrong side the world will never improve," garnering over 220 likes in under a day (shown below).
