Origin

On May 24th, 2016, Twitter user @robwhisman^[1] tweeted, "i think i'd like to have one of those youtube channels where every video thumbnail is this bullshit," along with a parody YouTube thumbnail featuring Whisman making a confused face and the title "Uber Driver Sucked Me Off??" The tweet gained over 5,000 retweets and 19,000 likes in five years (shown below).

Over the following five years, the tweet became a common reference on Twitter users when mocking similar YouTube thumbnails. For example, on June 14th, 2019, Twitter user @greatgrebe^[2] posted a series of videos from the YouTube channel for the television show Columbo, saying they had "uber driver sucked me off??? energy," gaining over 110 likes (shown below, left). On March 19th, 2020, user @karengeier^[3] commented a thumbnail from a video with Dr. Fauci "doesn’t need the “Uber Driver Sucked Me Off???” Graphic," gaining over 300 likes (shown below, right).

The phrase "Uber driver sucked me off??" also appeared in several song lyric parodies on Twitter. For example, on October 31st, 2018, user @headfallsoff^[4] tweeted the lyric to the tune of "Clementine," gaining over 100 likes (shown below, left). On December 30th, 2020, user @brickdustotis^[5] made the joke using Gotye's "Somebody That I Used To Know," gaining over 70 retweets and 530 likes (shown below, right).
