About
Uncle Aaron Has Papyrus' Skull refers to a series of memes and fan art that entertain the idea that the character Aaron Davis (The Prowler) from the 2018 film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has a skull that is shaped very similarly to that of the skeleton character Papyrus from the 2015 video game Undertale. Sparked by a viral tweet, the meme achieved prominence on Twitter in late June 2023 shortly after the release of the sequel Across the Spider-Verse.
Origin
On June 25th, 2023, Twitter[1] user @Clocky99565893 posted an image of the character Aaron Davis (also known as Uncle Aaron) from the 2018 animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, writing "bro why does he got the papyrus skull." The tweet (shown below, left) referenced the character Papyrus from the 2015 indie video game Undertale (shown below, right) and received over 5,800 retweets and 69,500 likes in one day.
Spread
The post inspired other users to post memes referencing the apparent similarity and artworks exploring it. For example, on June 25th, 2023, Twitter[2] user @Tenzalt posted a three-panel drawing in which they traced the shape of Uncle Aaron's skull. The drawing (shown below) gained over 16,400 retweets and 134,200 likes in less than a day.
Later on June 25th, artists @SwiftKnight1 and @ThewitchofA also shared[3][4] redraws of Uncle Davis as Papyrus, with the posts garnering over 430 likes and 170 likes, respectively, in less than a day (shown below, left and right).
