Miles Morales Singing "Sunflower" or Miles Morales Rapping "Sunflower" refers to a series of memes that humorously caption a GIF of the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse character Miles Morales singing along to "Sunflower" by Post Malone & Swae Lee while drawing. The format achieved virality on Twitter in early June 2023.

Origin

On December 3rd, 2018, 11 days prior to the premiere of the animated superhero film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse, an official clip from the movie in which the protagonist Miles Morales (Spider-Man) gets ready for school was released on YouTube.[1] At the start of the scene, Miles is in his room in headphones, drawing and singing along to "Sunflower" by Post Malone and Sway Lee.

On December 27th, 2018, Tenor[2] user _Savion posted a GIF of Miles Morales singing to the site.

The GIF did not see a presence in memes until June 2023, when the sequel to the film, Across The Spider-Verse, premiered. On June 3rd, 2023, Twitter[3] user @nonbinaryretail tweeted the GIF, captioning it with a parody version of the original lyrics. The tweet (shown below) received over 120 retweets and 570 likes in 11 days.


Later on June 3rd, 2023, Twitter[4] user @MangoJarritos posted another meme captioned with a parody version of "Sunflower" lyrics. The tweet (shown below) received over 2,700 retweets and 12,500 likes in 11 days.


The caption format maintained popularity on Twitter through early June 2023, with several Slang Overload versions going viral during that period.
