Origin

On November 26th, 2023, X^[1] / Twitter user @sadderlizards wrote, "unfortunately i will be passing away soon. for plot reasons." The post (shown below) garnered over 21,000 reposts and quote tweets and 58,000 likes in four days.

Later on November 26th, X^[2] user @theshephrdsboy quoted the post with a joke referencing the Doctor Who television series. The post (shown below) gained over 1,400 reposts and 10,000 likes in four days.

Spread

On November 27th, 2023, X^[3] user @dahramatic posted a Speech Bubbling meme about Jesus Christ that quoted the post. The meme (shown below) received over 38,000 reposts and 225,000 likes in three days, prompting the trend.

Starting on November 27th, multiple variants of the joke were posted on X, with some examples going viral on the platform. For example, on that day X^[4] user @princekendalll quoted the post with the image of character Logan Roy from the Succession drama series, with the post gaining over 2,500 reposts and 30,000 likes in three days (shown below, left). Later that day, X^[5] user @CE0ofFURINA posted a Genshin Impact version of the meme that received over 3,700 reposts and 19,000 likes in the same period (shown below, right).

The trend maintained moderate popularity on X through late November 2023.
