Wakey Wakey it's Time for School refers to a viral video showing a father wake his tired son up for school by shaking him gently and saying, "wakey wakey, it's time for school" then lifting him out of the bed and ushering him out the door. The audio from the video became a popular exploitable on YouTube and TikTok.

Origin

It's unknown who originally produced and uploaded the video. On April 21st, 2020, Emir Sahin uploaded the video to YouTube,[1] garnering over 3.2 million views in 8 months (shown below). This is the earliest known upload of the video.



Spread

On August 25th, balint.____.bihari uploaded a video to TikTok[2] featuring footage of a man waking up a sleeping monkey set to the audio from the "wakey wakey" video, garnering over 12,000 views in 4 months. On August 31st, Spearmint Memes reuploaded the video to YouTube,[3] garnering over 555,000 views in a comparable length of time (shown below, left). On the same day, Silvia 221b uploaded a video to YouTube[4] where she wakes her cat up set to the sound, garnering over 18,000 views in 4 months (shown below, right).



On September 26th, 2020, braden.bruv uploaded a video to TikTok[5] filmed from a first-person POV where he picks up his sleeping cat set to the sound from the "wakey wakey" video, garnering over 2.2 million views in just under 4 months (shown below, left). This began a trend on the platform where users would film themselves from a first-person POV waking up their sleeping pets to the sound. The most popular upload following the trend came on October 4th by madalynsterne, whose video[6] gained over 68 million views in just under 3 months (shown below, right). As of December 30th, the sound has been used on over 70,000 videos on TikTok.

On November 30th, Nitro.if uploaded a Nate Robinson meme using the sound to Instagram,[7] garnering over 155,000 views in a month (shown below).
