Guy (TikTok) refers to a viral video and original sound on TikTok where user Prayag (@444pray) repeats the phrase "What can I say?" three times while holding his hands up in an "L" shape. The video was posted by the TikToker in late September 2023 and was popularized that month as the source of lip dub videos and memes. In October, TikToker @mulahmovin reuploaded the audio, inspiring over 10,000 uses in a week. Additionally, TikTokers began to use the video under original captions as an image macro format.

Origin

On September 25th, 2023, TikToker[1] @444pray posted a video response to a commenter calling him sassy. In the video, he owns his sassiness, saying God wanted him to be that way, then says "What can I say?" three times while holding up "L's" with his hands, garnering over 11 million views in two weeks (shown below).

The video's original sound was used over 500 times in the following weeks as a lip dub format and by users reuploading the video of Prayag with new captions. For example, on September 30th, TikToker[2] @hennysunn posted a video that gained over 230,000 views in two weeks (shown below).

On October 2nd, 2023, TikToker[3] @mulahmovin posted a meme using the video, captioned, "when he asks why I have his whole family in my Facebook search bar on the first link," garnering over 6.8 million views in eight days (shown below). That day, he also uploaded a crop of the video to TikTok[4] consisting of the video without a caption.

The video's original sound became notably popular on TikTok over the following days, inspiring over 10,000 uses in a week. Some of the earliest examples feature the same video over new captions. For example, on October 3rd, 2023, TikToker[5] @calebvareene posted a version of the meme that gained over 2.5 million views in a week (shown below, left). On October 4th, TikToker[6] @hebaalso posted a meme that gained over 4.8 million views in six days (shown below, right).
