The format was popularized in September 2025 on TikTok and spread over the following months to apps like X / Twitter and Reddit. The format is similar to the Nurning Annintant memes, where there is no way to properly read the list "from the middle," thus confusing people and encouraging them to comment and engage with the post.

Origin

On September 20th, 2025, TikToker^[1] @timi.forshort_ posted a video of himself eating under the caption, "What I really want: School (without chool) Window (without win) Bridge (without dge) Father (without fath) (now read it from the middle." The post gained over 20 million views in three months. This is the earliest known version of the meme.

On November 23rd, 2025, TikToker^[2] @nyla.roams posted a version of the meme featuring a caption over footage of a plane, garnering over 14.6 million views in a month.

On December 13th, X^[3] user @TheWapplehouse posted a photograph of a woman holding up a sign with a version of the meme, garnering over 19,000 likes and 1,100 comments in three days.

It was reposted by Threads^[4] user kspencer1007 later that day, garnering over 2,000 likes in the same span of time.
