Whatever. Go My Scarab is a catchphrase popularized through a series of memes inspired by a viral video of a Japanese rhino beetle flying from a pink sofa and then turning towards the camera. The clip was originally posted to X / Twitter in December 2023 and inspired numerous memes throughout 2024, including redraws of the video, referential memes in which a character is shown directing a scarab by using the phrase and memes using the catchphrase independent of the scarab video.
Origin
On July 26th, 2014, YouTuber[1] Will McGugan posted a video of a Japanese rhino beetle flying off of a pink sofa, turning in mid-air, then flying towards the camera, garnering over 964,000 views in 10 years.
On December 10th, 2023, X[2] user @eijisboyfriend posted a low-resolution video of the beetle flying forward, turning in the air, then going toward the camera, captioned, "Whatever. Go my scarab," garnering around 470 likes in 10 months. This is the earliest known example of the meme.

Spread
The post inspired further memes throughout 2024, including numerous edits on Tenor, which replaced the beetle with an image of a character.
On May 28th, 2024, X[3] user @crowstifer posted a piece of Guilty Gear fan art using the phrase, garnering over 6,700 likes in five months.
On June 4th, 2024, X[4] user @sanguinefluidd posted a piece of artwork depicting a character sending a scarab from his hand, garnering over 1,200 likes in four months. On July 18th, Tenor[5] user owoellen posted a high-quality recreation of the original meme.
On September 18th, X[6] user @Kiwrye posted artwork depicting two Splatoon 3 characters, Shiver and Frye, using the phrase, garnering over 4,400 likes in a month.
On September 28th, 2024, Tumblr[7] user mmmwafflesart posted a version of the meme featuring Link from The Legend of Zelda sending a scarab forward, garnering over 12,000 notes in roughly two weeks.
