X user @5ega5aturn5tan made the earliest known posts combining a photo of American filmmaker and internet personality Tariq Nasheed with text that read, "When the random e-celeb you dislike for just being dumb and annoying and unfunny finally is outed for a legitimate reason to dislike them." While the original tweet has since been deleted, it was likely posted sometime before July 2022 (seen below).

The earliest known instance of the screenshot being deployed to comment on an internet celebrity being canceled was a July 28th, 2022, post on the /r/gamingcirclejerk^[1] subreddit, where it gathered over 3,000 upvotes in two years.
