About

"Which Disney Are You?" and "Qué Princesa de Disney Eres?" are custom Instagram filters which randomly choose a Disney character from a set and display it over the person's head. The original version of the filter was created by videomaker kevinsstorm, with a more popular version later released by arnoartissimo. In late December 2019, the filters received viral spread on Instagram and TikTok.

Origin

Before December 19th, 2019, Instagram[1] user kevinsstorm added a custom Instagram filter "¿Qué princesa de Disney eres?" The filter randomly selects a Disney princess, displaying it as a floating icon over the head of the person using the filter (example shown below).

On December 27th, 2019, Instagram[2] user arnopartissimo (Arno Partissimo) added a similar filter titled "Which Disney Are You?" The filter randomly selects a Disney character from a set of 25.

"Which Disney Are You?" filter includes the following characters for a total of 25 options: Aladdin (Alladin), Ariel (The Little Mermaid), Banzai (Lion King), Belle (Beauty and the Beast), Captain Hook (Peter Pan), Cinderella (Cinderella), Dory (Finding Nemo), Elsa (Frozen), Flounder (The Little Mermaid), Genie (Aladdin), Gus (Cinderella), Hades (Hercules), Hercules (Hercules), Jafar (Aladdin), John Smith (Pocahontas), Maleficent (Snow White), Mulan (Mulan), Olaf (Frozen), Pumba (The Lion King), Quasimodo (The Hunchback of Notre Dame), Scar (Lion King), Shere Khan (Mowgli), Simba (The Lion King), Timon (The Lion King) and Ursula (The Little Mermaid).

Spread

Following the release of the filters, they gained viral spread online on Instagram and TikTok (examples shown below), with multiple celebrities trying out the filter, including musician Diplo, model Hailey Bieber and actress Zelda Williams.[3]

Following the viral spread of "Which Disney Are You?" filter, CNN,[4] Lifehacker,[5] New York Post[6] and online outlets reported on it. Additionally, a number of guides for obtaining and using the filters were posted on YouTube and in the media (shown below).
