Donald Duck Boner refers to a series of still images and gifs from Disney cartoons that feature Donald Duck with large bump in his mid-section. Many online have pointed out that the placement of the bump makes it appear as though the kid-friendly cartoon character has an erection.

Origin

The most popular iteration of Donald Duck boner, in which Donald stands up-right with his blue hat on, comes from a frame near end of the Disney animated anthology film Saludos Amigos, released August 24th, 1942.^[9] During the segment "Aquarela do Brasil" (shown below), Donald swallows a bee, and as the bee moves throughout his body, it pushes up against Donald's stomach, creating a bump that resembles an erection.

While Donald Duck has been part of the Disney canon since 1934, the earliest known example of the infamous picture of him with a supposed erection online appeared on the helli6n wordpress on August 2nd, 2010.^[1] The image has since been removed, but less than a month later, on September 6th, the image (shown below) appeared on Funnyjunk with a watermark from 4gifs.com, meaning it likely dates back farther.

Another variation, in which Donald is lying on his back, is a still from the Disney animated short Wide Open Spaces, released September 12th, 1947. In the film, Donald attempts to sleep outside on an air mattress. However, a rock underneath his mattress pushes all the way through his body, creating a bump in his stomach that looks like an erection.

Spread

On May 20th, 2011, Redditor McDrawrHumperdink posted the image in a thread about a 3D render of Mickey Mouse. The thread received more than 1,000 points (90% upvoted) and 200 comments before archiving.^[3]

The following year, Redditor CrossSockDance posted a variation of the image (this time of Donald in bed with a bump in the mid section) in the subreddit /r/WTF^[6] The post received more than 1,200 points (91% upvoted) and 100 comments before archiving.

Two years later, on July 15th, 2014 Meme Generator posted that variation of the meme. In this instance, Donald Duck is lying in bed with a bump in his mid-section (examples below).^[4]

The image was posted on imgur as a gif on May 15th, 2015. The gif (shown below) has received more than 66,000 views in a little more than year.

Throughout 2014 and 2015, anonymous users on 4chan^[8] and other image boards have used the images of Donald Duck as a reaction image to describe arousal or sexual excitement toward a specific person or topic, sarcastically and sincerely (shown below).^[7]
