About

YandereDev Discord Ban Speedruns refers to a parody speedrun category which involves the runner getting themselves banned from the Discord server owned by the developer of the Yandere Simulator Alexander Mahan, known as YandereDev, as quickly as possible. The goal was usually achieved by posting memes referencing YandevDev's past, particularly a video of him drinking milk from a chalice, or memes poking fun at his coding abilities. On February 3rd, 2020, YandereDev locked his Discord server in order to stop the raids.

Origin

On June 1st and June 6th, 2018, the developer of Yandere Simulator Alexander Mahan, known online as YandereDev and EvaXephon, posted videos "The Photography Club and Sleuths in Yandere Simulator"[1] and "Where's Osana?"[2] on YouTube. The comment sections of the videos were subsequently flooded with criticism and comments about the partnership between the developer and tinyBuild being severed. YandereDev then disabled comments on the second video, later also disabling comments on his personal blog. The actions lead to an increased amount of negative discussions about the developer on Discord, Reddit and other platforms, particularly discussions bringing up Mahan's "cringy" past.

On June 11th, 2018, YandereDev[3] made a blog post addressing the wave of criticism.

There are people in this world whose hobby is shaming and ridiculing other people. Digging for dirt in other peoples’ lives is their favorite past-time. Humiliating their victims is like a recreational activity for them. They’ll go as deep as they possibly can into your personal life and look for absolutely any quote, screenshot, or chat log that can be used against you. They’re not doing it for any noble reason; they just enjoy the cruelty of it.

On June 19th, 2018, YouTuber[4] Mayonaka posted a video titled "WR speedrun banned from Yandere Dev server Only Kiwifarms no youtube Only Keyblade Critical Lvl1 run" in which he got himself banned from the Offical Yandere Simulator Discord[5] server by posting a meme based on an old photograph of YandereDev. On the same day, YouTube[6] user ToadDan posted a similar video titled "YandereSim Server Ban (No BLJ) Former WR (0:06)." The videos received over 12,800 and 255,700 views in one and a half years, respectively (shown below, left and right).

Spread

The trend did not see significant spread until on November 20th, 2019, Twitter[7] user @ShibeAlt_92 reposted the meme, gaining over 4,300 retweets and 22,600 likes (tweet shown below, left). On November 21st, 2019, Twitter[8] user @blarksyy posted the image in the YandereDev's Discord server and reported being banned within several seconds after posting the image (tweet shown below, right).

In the following days, Twitter users @velourina[11] and @sALty_oof[27] and YouTube user Aguilera[12] posted similar videos.

On November 23rd, 2019, YouTube[13] user terminus re-uploaded a video of YandereDev drinking milk from a chalice, self-recorded by YandereDev at an unknown point before February 26, 2010.[14] The video received over 254,280 views in two months. On December 31st, 2019, and January 1st, 2020, Tenor[15][16] user niggacar69 posted two images based on the video of YandereDev drinking milk from the chalice captioned "Consume the Cum Chalice." The GIFs would later gain popularity as a means to get banned on the server.

January 2020 Surge

On January 9th, 2020, Twitter user @careful_wario[17][18] posted a Danganronpa dub of the video, with the tweet receiving over 1,000 retweets and 3,800 likes. On January 17th, 2020, Twitter[19] user @aresene_04 tweeted that they posted the @careful_wario's video in the YandereDev's Discord and got instantly banned (shown below). In the replies, multiple Twitter[20][21] users reported posting memes about YandereDev on the server and getting banned.

On January 18th, 2020, Twitter[22] user @JonVaginal tweeted that he got banned from the server in nine seconds, with the tweet receiving over 5,200 retweets and 19,600 likes in two weeks. On January 19th, 2020, YouTuber[23] Bonkinson posted a video parodying Summoning Salt's World Record Progression format about YandereDev's Discord Ban Speedruns which received over 792,500 views (shown below).

On January 19th, 2020, YandereDev[24] temporarily restricted access to the Discord to his Twitch subscribers. In late January and February 2020, multiple users on Twitter and YouTube posted videos of themselves getting banned from the server.

On January 21st[25] and February 2nd,[26] Bonkinson posted two more videos about the world record progression (shown below, left and right).

On February 3rd, 2020, YandereDev once again made his Discord server available exclusively to his Twitch subscribers (posts shown below, left and right).

9:51 PM YandereDev Recently, it became a meme to raid this server. Literally thousands of people came here every day for the purpose of spamming. It became impossible to have a normal conversation in the server. We tried every solution available (bots, filters, increasing verification level) but even after 2 weeks, the raid didn't show any sign of stopping. It actually just got worse with each passing day. It eventually became obvious that there was no reason to keep the server open to the public. When this server was first created, it was meant to be a hangout spot for my Twitch subscribers. This server will remain open, but only the original members (Twitch Subs) will be able to talk here. You can join if you subscribe to me on Twitch. (No, this is not a "paywall", this is just reverting back to the server's origins.) Maybe the server will open to the public again one day. Until then, I'll direct you to some videos that you can watch: (edited)
3:18 AM YandereDev Update: We might have a solution in the works. I contacted Discord and asked them what could be done about the situation. They asked me to send them the user IDs and message IDs of everyone who participated in the raid / harasses me through DM. That would be literally thousands of accounts, and I don't want to spend my time doing that. However, it might be the only way to resolve the situation. If thousands of accounts get suspended or banned, then word will spread that raiding this server / harassing me will result in punishment from Discord. Then, people would stop doing it, and the server could actually be open to the public again. So, I took the time to send Discord a few hundred user IDs and message IDs, and from this point onward, I'll provide Discord with the user/message IDs of anyone who harasses me through DM. We'll see what happens. Hopefully, Discord will take action against these users, and once the harassment fad dies, it will become feasible to re-open the server. There are thousands of fans of Yandere Simulator who were using this server to talk with other fans. It's unfair that they're not allowed to speak here anymore because of mass- harassment and raiding making the server unusable. Hopefully, this situation can be resolved Soon.
