Yeezy Slides are a pair of sandals designed by rapper, recording artist and music producer Kanye West. Online, people reacted to their design by mocking the product.

Origin

On April 19th, 2018, Kanye West tweeted [1] a picture of a single blue sandal with a ridged bottom with the caption "Yeezy slides." The post (shown below) received more than 10,900 retweets and 64,000 likes in four days.

Following the post, people online mocked the sandals, comparing them to other products. That day, Twitter[2] user @hjallday tweeted a picture of a blue LEGO piece (shown below, left) at West.

Twitter[3] user @ImJustShica tweeted a picture of blue foam that resembles the sandals. The post (shown below, center) received more than 1,500 retweets and 8,000 likes in 24 hours.

Many compared the sandals to Crocs, a popular brand of foam clogs. On April 21st, Twitter[4] user @lufallon posted a picture of a pair of clogs that look like blue crocs with the caption "Omg wow these look just like surgeons shoes #innovative x." The post (shown below, right) received more than 10 retweets and 225 likes in two days.

On April 19th, Twitter[6] user @EricTrillman_ retweeted the image and commented, "This shit look like a Scooby Doo fruit snack." The post (shown below) received more than 79,000 retweets and 317,000 likes in four days.

On April 21st, Twitter[5] published a Moments page to archive the response to the sandals.

Several media outlets covered the response to the Yeezy Slides, including The Daily Dot, [7] The Independent,[8] Refinery29,[9] Perez Hilton[10] and more.

Yeezy 451

On August 20th, 2018, West tweeted[11] a photograph of the "reworking the bottom unit on the 451." The post (shown below) received more than 2,600 retweets and 25,000 likes in three days.

Shortly after, people responded to the tweet with parodies of the shoes. Twitter[12] user @TheShoeGawd compared the shoes to a prop from the film Beetlejuice (shown below, left). Twitter[13] user @nidya_sanchez posted a picture of hair clip, implying that the shoes resembled the beauty product (shown below, center). Additionally, Twitter[14] user @dustinbdavis tweeted a gif of an animated caterpillar with the caption (shown below, right), "Out here making shoes for caterpillers."
