Yoshi Dancing Next To An Egg shortened as Yoshi Dancing refers to a clip of Super Mario character Yoshi dancing next to an egg from the game Super Mario Sluggers. In 2021, YouTubers began adding songs to Yoshi dancing, mostly with the song "Hoje Vai Ter Festinha," aka "TACA A XERECA PRA MIM," helping the clip become a meme in Brazil and in Hispanic countries.

Origin

Nintendo released Super Mario Sluggers on June 19th, 2008. The Yoshi dance comes from the loading screen of the game (shown below).[1]

On July 23rd, 2021, MC Kaique da VP released "E QUE HOJE VAI TER FESTINHA," aka "TACA A XERECA PRA MIM," gaining over 3.8 million views on YouTube.


On September 4th, 2021, Twitter user @Nsuspenso posted a clip pairing Yoshi and the song, though it only gained 1,200 views (shown below).

On September 8th, 2021, YouTube user Faboluiz100 uploaded a clip of Yoshi dancing to the song, receiving over 190,000 views and 7,500 likes (shown below, left).[2] The next day, user Yoshi Dançando uploaded the same video, receiving 898,000 views and 43,000 likes (shown below.)[4]

On September 23th, 2021 YouTube user o jujuba uploaded one of the most popular examples of the meme, receiving 2.6M views and 232,000 likes (shown below, left).[4] On October 22nd, user Pumpkin Booy posted a variation with Yoshi dancing to the entire song, gaining over 5 million views (shown below, right).
