You Can't Be Good At Smash Bros And Also Attractive is a bait post that grew into a popular snowclone among the Super Smash Brothers community. After occasionally appearing as a copypasta for nearly a year, the phrase morphed into a snowclone where people changed "and be attractive" into more existential and humorous punchlines.

Origin

On August 24th, 2021, Twitter user @Rengekko_^[1] posted, "You can’t be good at smash bros and also attractive." The tweet gained over 1,200 retweets, 1,700 quote-tweets, and 15,000 likes in nearly a year (shown below). In the replies, @rengekko_^[2] admitted they were baiting the Smash community online.

Spread

Over the following year, the tweet and variations of it were reposted widely on Twitter, and often by @Rengekko_.^[3] Often these would inspire posts of humorous pictures in response to the prompt^[4] (example shown below).

On July 27th, 2022, Rengekko_^[5] made a post celebrating the numerous times they'd posted the copypasta. This inspired others to turn the tweet into a snowclone. For example, that day, top player DDee^[6] tweeted, "You can’t be good at smash bros and also happy," gaining over 190 retweets and 2,700 likes in two days (shown below, left). The same day, user @GeorgeOD_^[7] posted "you can't be good at smash bros and also they're living inside your walls they're living inside your walls they're…" gaining over 40 retweets and 800 likes (shown below, right).
