Your Next Task Is… refers to a series of exploitable image macros based on a still image of Player 369 from the South Korean survival drama series Squid Game in which a particularly difficult challenge is being announced. Originating from a viral Reddit post, the format gained notable prominence online in October 2021.
Origin
On September 1st, 2021, an official trailer for the South Korean survival drama series Squid Game premiered.[1] At the 1:11 mark in the trailer, Player 369 is briefly shown standing in front of other players, accusing masked workers of killing people (trailer shown below). In the series, the scene appears in episode two of the series at the 3:42 mark. The line "your next task is" that is used in the meme format, is not said during the scene. Moreover, none of the six games are revealed beforehand in the series.

On October 13th, 2021, Redditor r69s007 posted a still image of Player 369 from the trailer, captioning it, "your next task is to plugin the USB in one attempt," using a popular joke about USB insertion issues that implies that plugging in a USB cable on the first attempt is nearly impossible. The post received over 18,100 upvotes in /r/memes[2] in one month (shown below).

Later on October 13th, 2021, Redditors The_Watcher8008 and Tintovic posted the two first memes that reused the format, with their posts gaining over 62,900 upvotes in /r/memes[3] and 420 upvotes in /r/2balkan4you,[4] respectively (shown below, left and right).
On October 14th, Twitter[5] user @kings_anyi reposted r69s007's joke, with the post gaining over 760 retweets and 2,500 likes in one month. Later on the same day, Redditor[6] OrionDUchiha posted a meme that gained over 18,100 upvotes in /r/memes and was widely circulated online in the following week with reposts on Facebook[7] and other sites (shown below).
Starting in mid-October 2021, the format achieved notable spread online, particularly on Twitter, with multiple viral versions of the meme posted in October and November 2021.
