Aaron Burr's Wikipedia Page Vandalized With 'Miku Binder Thomas Jefferson' Meme
Twitter users were positively baffled over the weekend when they noticed "Aaron Burr" was trending on the site because "The Wikipedia page for the third vice president of the United States, Aaron Burr, has been altered to include a reference to a piece of fan art depicting Thomas Jefferson wearing a chest binder depicting the face of Hatsune Miku." Nice one, Twitter Description Guy.
Yes, Miku Binder Thomas Jefferson, the infamous Hamilton-inspired piece of fan art that has been infamous on Tumblr (and later Twitter) for years, is back in the news thanks to some Wikipedia vandals having a laugh.
The moment was spotted by multiple Twitter users, who noticed that the Google description for Aaron Burr included a (false) claim that the former vice president gifted Jefferson the infamous Binder.

Evidently, a small war had been going on between Wikipedia editors and internet vandals yesterday, as evidenced by the edit history of the page. The page, which is fine now, had been inundated with references to the meme, including false factoids that Burr "loved anime," "kinned" Levi Ackermann, and was instrumental in the Tomato Town Massacre.
"I'm sorry, I'm just doing this so I can immortalize this in the WayBack Machine," wrote one vandal. "Feel free to turn it back in, like, 5 minutes. I appreciate all the work you do but this is insanely funny so I hope you'll forgive me for causing a minor hinderance." Sure enough, the vandalized page including references to the Miku Binder meme can be found here.
The story of Miku Binder Thomas Jefferson is a long and silly one, but the short version is that in 2017, Tumblr user umbronydraws began posting Hamilton AU fan art depicting various founding fathers as queer college students who loved anime. The post became a meme on Tumblr for years but was forgotten until last year when umbronydraws made pro-police comments on Twitter during the George Floyd Protests, causing a surge of parodies to flood the site. The Wikipedia vandalism is yet another chapter in the meme's bizarre, apparently immortal lifespan. Twitter users in the know were flabbergasted that Miku Binder Thomas Jefferson had returned to haunt them again.
"Aaron Burr, Thomas Jefferson and hatsuna miku? What a random combo."
I'm dying seeing everyone just thinking that it's random and not like there is a long history. pic.twitter.com/qXy1gzX5hR— Drewie-Pie (@AmonsJasa) March 14, 2021

Hats off to the vandals: as far as Wikipedia vandalisms go, at least this one didn't nearly wipe out an entire language.
