Few combinations of words strike fear into the hearts of media consumers as much as Amazon and "live-action adaptation," especially after recent potential debacles, so social media has already begun expecting the worst from Amazon's latest rumored video game adaptation, God of War.
Yesterday, Deadline reported that Prime Video was in talks with Sony to produce a live-action God of War series. The Expanse creators and executive producers, Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, and The Wheel of Time executive producer and showrunner, Rafe Judkins, are all rumored to be attached to the project. It is unknown at this point whether the series would take after the angrier Kratos of the original games set in Ancient Greece or the softer Kratos of 2018's God of War set in Viking-era Norway, though IGN speculates it will be the latter.
Given the general track record of cinematic video game adaptations (which is not good), fans reacted to the news by bracing for the worst, particularly when it came to the potential cast of a God of War adaptation in regards to who might portray Kratos. Since one muscly actor has grown infamous for getting cast in seemingly every new adaptation, fans trotted out the Chris Pratt Cast as Everything meme once again, with others joking that Tom Holland (playing Nathan Drake in the Uncharted movie) would land the role or get cast as Kratos' whiny kid, Atreus.

Should the rumors be accurate, God of War would join a long list of video game adaptations currently in development. Amazon is reportedly also working on a Disco Elysium TV show and a Life is Strange adaptation. Additionally, adaptations of The Last of Us, NieR: Automata and Assassin's Creed are all supposedly in development from other companies.
