After 13 long Shrekless years, Shrek 5 may finally be arriving in 2025, a new rumor has supposedly revealed.
Yesterday, X / Twitter account DiscussingFilm purported that an intern at NBCUniversal had accidentally leaked the planned release date for the fifth main installment in the Shrek franchise.
According to the rumored list of projects the intern worked on that was posted on her LinkedIn profile, Shrek 5 is currently scheduled for release in 2025.
Sitting right next to it are already confirmed release dates for Wicked Part I and Despicable Me 4, which gave more legitimacy to the 2025 release in the eyes of many following the leak's spread.
Additionally, the part mentioning the release date for Shrek 5 and other films has since been wiped from the profile.
Back in April, Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri confirmed that the fifth Shrek film was in the early stages of development to Variety.
The rumor yesterday notably coincided with Rockstar Games announcing the December premiere of the much-anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI trailer, with people on X barely able to handle this double whammy of hype.

The last Shrek film, Shrek Forever After came out in 2010, and Shrek 5 and the lack of new Shrek movies both have been recurring topics in memes at least since 2017.
