Charlie Wright and his "Not My Rodrick" response.

Charlie Wright, the actor best known for playing the character Rodrick in the 2017 film Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul, has spoken publicly for the first time about the public hate campaign he got ahead of the film's release as he was cast in the role following Devon Bostick's portrayal in the first batch of the franchise's movies.

The "Not My Rodrick" or "#NotMyRodrick" campaign in 2017 featured negative memes at Wright's expense, perhaps due to it being a parody of the #NotMyPresident campaign against the recently elected Donald Trump.

In a video posted to YouTube and TikTok on Sunday, Wright spoke about the psychological toll the campaign took on him, as well as the effect it had on his acting career.

He revealed that he received death threats and still gets hate to this day, despite not doing much acting since the campaign. It caused him to have a "major depressive episode" that lasted for several months, and he said he "didn't really like acting that much" over the course of the nine-minute video.

The video reminded several on social media of the campaign and their own level of involvement in it, and several posters expressed regret over how out of hand the situation got.

Wright only acted in one episode of Yellowjackets since the release of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul. He recently began posting to social media on YouTube, and it appears he has been working in the fashion industry since.
