Queens-based makeup artist @DolledByTrishie hosted a "meme-themed" party to celebrate her birthday earlier in October, inciting strong reactions from people who saw her viral video showing off her friends and their classic meme outfits.

The video showed party-goers dressed as popular memes like Arthur's Fist and The Dress, as well as not one, but three attendees dressed as The Rock's Turtleneck Photo

The video was reposted to X (Twitter) by @_3volepod, eliciting groans from a younger cadre of internet users. Many onlookers seemed to think that the costumes represented old or outdated memes, with some users calling themselves reluctant "ageists" as a result of their negative reaction to the video.

X user @levinsevin reposted the video calling himself ageist for thinking the video was unfunny and outdated, while X user @ungodlyfaran posted a joke about the memes in the video being so old they could be "Mesapotamian."

But several Internet users also rose to the birthday girl's defense, saying that Gen Z memes can be equally unfunny costume ideas. X user @JayDGoat reposted the video saying that nobody wants to dress as "Kai Cenat gyatt" or Skibidi Toilet. X user @2beadsattheend added that needless "hating" culture had brought out the worst in people.
