Actress Reese Witherspoon, perhaps best known for her portrayal of Elle Woods in the film Legally Blonde and a formidable Hollywood career, is trending on Twitter after she foretold a future defined by the metaverse and cryptocurrency.

"In the (near) future, every person will have a parallel digital identity. Avatars, crypto wallets, digital goods will be the norm. Are you planning for this?," she wrote.

Cryptocurrency remains one of the most divisive topics of modern times, especially NFTs, as people either find themselves firmly on board with the trend or deeply against it. Witherspoon's tweet seemingly outing herself as a believer in a crypto-filled future, which seemed to come out of the blue for many, generated the type of response one might expect from such a tweet — with those against crypto expressing their distaste in droves.

Lest one thinks the actress was hacked, Witherspoon's prophecy of a digital future isn't quite out of nowhere. She's recently voiced her support for NFT projects such as "World of Women NFTs," a collective that has minted NFTs of "diverse and powerful women."

Her previous tweets in which she showed support for the crypto space didn't generate as much interest as her tweet Tuesday afternoon, however, suggesting that the stoned crypto-bro, copypasta-esque quality of her "near future" tweet was enough to capture the attention of those who don't normally pay much mind to what she tweets.

Only time will tell if perhaps Witherspoon was right all along and we were fools for laughing at her sagely prophecy.
