At first it starts out with each of the seven wanting the guy's soul… then they realize how shit his lifes been, then slowly what were attempts to get him to sell his soul become legitimate attempts to help him. Near the end of the season a new, serious demon who placed the misfortune on the guy to begin with (in order to convince him to end his life so he could collect the soul) realizes his prey isn't miserable anymore, and tries to get rid of the seven so he can finally collect.
