Leonard said nothing about bas ketball, money or market "There has to be good surfing or I'm not going," Leonard said. "Are the waves in San Antonio like the ones in San Diego? Pop laughed, and told him he'd help him find some oceanfront property. After the draft, Popovich realized that Kawhi was 100 % serious as he kept asking to go to the beach. Obviously there are no beaches in central Texas, but the organization went to great lengths to convince Leonard otherwise. Multiple sources confirm that the Spurs built a massive, Truman Show style habitat for Kawhi, complete with a simulated ocean. They even borrowed several dolphins and other marine life from nearby SeaWorld. It actually worked, until Leonard went to New York to rehab his quad. That's when then-Lakers executive Magic Johnson showed him a map of the United States. sreekar @sreekyshooter Wow each new Kawhi Leonard story that comes out is crazier than the last! Danny Green recalls a 2011 trip to a used car dealership in San Antonio to assist a rookie Kawhi Leonard with his first car purchase. When a salesman asked what features he sought in his ideal car, Kawhi replied, "a good steering wheel that doesn't fly off while you're driving." Sensing confusion from the salesman and Green, Kawhi reiterated he wanted a car with "a great steering wheel that doesn't whiff out of the window while I'm driving." Green then asked his teammate what he wanted his first car to look like. Kawhi told him he wanted a car that was "too small, so when I get in there, I'm like, 'if the steering wheel fly off, I'm toast.'" The salesman, still unsure what his prospective customer was looking for, followed up with a question about the type of interior Kawhi envisioned in his dream car. One time after practice everyone decided to go out for a team dinner. When it was his turn to order, Kawhi waived off the waiter and instead pulled out a bag of 12 apples.
