It's an expensive peripheral and requires a VERY dedicated development. It's effectively a niche, within a niche. Try convincing the average person to shell out $1,000 for a PC, $600 for a peripheral and then have enough room to safely use it. Tell that to a triple A game dev and ask them to dump $10mill into development. It may be fun, but don't see it ever being more than an enthusiast's item. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
TO be honest, it kinda bothers me that they're calling VR out as a "Shitty gimmick". I mean, I have an Oculus, and it's hella fun. VRChat, Superhot VR, Beat Saber, hell, even Rec Room, are all really fun to play.
