I tend to hear complaints about the reverse, how men who "appeared to be such good friends" simply appear to make a concerted effort to pretend they don't exist after they "confirmed they are, in fact, in a friendship".
Sure there's more nuance to that and varies case by case, but say I'm genuinely putting my moves for a romantic relationship, (pathetic attempts at) dropping hints and all the like, then I go for broke, and get banished to The Zone for my efforts. Sorry ma'am my energy and resources are limited, I will cut my losses the second you say 'no'. If we're REALLY friends then you will understand that I need some time out.
