Using an AI to generate art doesn't make you an artist. You are discerning between art pieces drawn by a machine, making you a curator at best.

Creating an AI to generate art could make you an artist depending on your definition of an artist, the same way rigging up a machine with colored pencils and then making it spin over paper could make you an artist.

Asking people who use your colored pencil spinning machine to credit you because you are proud of your creation isn't a bad thing.

That you made your colored pencil spinning machine mimic the art style of someone else? That's a different matter from all of the above.
