93 What does ongezellig have to do with soyjak? It's uncanny af (self.ongezellig) submitted 1 year ago * (last edited 1 year ago) by Urinate_Cuminium 31 comments source share save hide report crosspost hide all child comments sorted by: top navigate by you are viewing a single comment's thread. view the rest of the comments → [-] [deleted] 9 points 1 year ago Sorry for kinda reviving a 2 month old post, but man, I ran into the same experience as you. For fun I wanted to find out the origins of a soyjak meme and somehow in one youtube video I heard guy mentioning "ongezellig". I am currently studying Dutch (albeit slowly af) and wanted to find out what is that. And then I watched all 6 series but still don't understand how it is related to memes. It is good series actually with so many Dutch culture references, I bet this is gonna be studied by future historians permalink source embed save save-RES report reply hide child comments [-] HWABAG_though 8 points 1 year ago It comes from a 4chan's meta board called /qa/ where a single person spammed it relentlessly every day. Anything that didn't belong anywhere else on 4chan found its way to /qa/, and it became a haven for soyjakers because they weren't welcome anywhere else. There was also a poster on /qa/ that was particularly obsessed with the cartoon and posted a thread about it at least once a day and over time it became well-known on /qa/. One day, /qa/ raided /lgbt/ and spammed it with soyjaks. 4chan's staff then decided to delete /qa/, wiping all of the content on there and prohibiting any new threads from being made. Intra-board raids are rare on 4chan these days, so /qa/ and its culture (which includes ongezellig, or "zellig") became very famous overnight, causing soyjaks and Ongezellig to be associated with one another and /qa/. /qa/ moved off-site onto a spiritual successor of /qa/ dedicated to soyjak spamming, and they continue to make weird stuff like the video OP linked. permalink source embed save save-RES parent report reply hide child comments [-] AtomicStarfish1 wait wait wait 3 points 12 months ago I just have the slightest suspicion I know that spammer.
