Best Gore^[1] is a Edmonton, Alberta, Canada-based shock site that provides uncensored graphic photographs and videos related to news stories as well as opinion pieces.

History

On April 8, 2008 the domain BestGore.com was registered by Mark Marek. The first post came on April 30, 2008 and contained a video clip of American civil engineer Eugene Armstrong being beheaded by a group of Al-Qaida operatives led by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. ^[3] BestGore has a history of being faced with legal charges due to the nature of the site to allow real murders to be posted.

1 Lunatic 1 Ice Pick

On May 25, 2012, Luka Magnotta uploaded an 11-minute video to Best Gore entitled 1 Lunatic 1 Ice Pick that depicted Luka killing and dismembering Lin Jun, an international student form China.^[4] Police initially reported that Marek refused to take down the video, but Marek later stated that he took it down himself of his own accord.^[5] This incident led Best Gore to enter the public spotlight as well as Marek to stand trial.^[6]

Features

Best Gore sections include "All the Gore" which contains an archive of it's stories^[7], an "About" section that includes a FAQ^[8], and forums.^[9] Best Gore is known for using an image of an Asian woman impaled and being roasted on a spit like a pig as their header.

Highlights

There are few enough members of Best Gore to act as a close-knit community. These members have developed their own in-jokes and references to previous gore videos that generally every regular of the site knows.

Pointers

Pointers are people found in the archived images of Best Gore that point to the victim at hand, usually brutally mutilated. Sometimes there would be an instance of a self-pointer, which is when the victim dies whilst pointing at himself.

Flip Flops

Flip Flops are footwear that became an in-joke to members of Best Gore for being in most images of dead Brazilians on the site. Much like pointers, these flip flops are often called out by the members when they spot it in the archived images.
