This Week On TikTok: A Hype House Party, Flash Warnings and Folding
Ain't no party like a problematic influencer pandemic party.
Another unapologetic week of disappointment, musical oddities and snappy transitions have gone by on TikTok. The Hype House started off the drama for the week after they hosted a very non-social-distancing-friendly birthday party but thankfully there were some goofy trends to distract from influencer fodder. Some teens got creative with impressive transitions that necessitated flash warnings while others tried to wrap their heads around a catchy tune they thought was about bread. As always, the platform was filled with skit video trends like I Am Black and the Fold Challenge for the amateur TikTok actors. Overall, a pretty eventful week for TikTokers.
Hype House Party Aftermath
Last week, a party thrown was thrown at the influencer house, hype house during the coronavirus pandemic for TikToker Larri Merritt's 22nd birthday and this week those involved are dealing with the consequences. The party hosted a number of unmasked influencers such as James Charles, Nikita Dragun, Charli D'Amelio and Tana Mongeau, who was captured at the party saying "We don't f*cking care." Seeing as they are all literally influencing millions of teens, it's not great PR for them now all we can do is wait for the hundreds of corona tests to come back.

Fold Challenge
Back in 2015, CalebCity first uttered the threat "You better scramble like an egg, before you get folded like an omelette" and now there's the TikTok Fold Challenge to illustrate the many ways someone could be made to collapse. Using the songs "Why Would You Play With Me" by Foolio or "Play Date" by Melanie Martinez, TikTokers share their own personal experiences with folding in half from disappointment.

I Am Black
A trend stemming from a Toca Boca-inspired meme has lead to some pretty real and humorous spinoff videos about being black. I Am Black / I Am Lost Spinoffs use a remixed version of "In This Shirt" by the Irrepressibles to act out scenarios that necessitate the phrase "I am black." Millions of likes were gathered this week for these videos that tackle prejudice with humor.

Flash Warning Transitions
Weebs and K-pop stans of TikTok have united to popularize a special effect trend with Flash Warnings. These fan art videos typically uses fast transitions to combine real-life footage seamlessly with anime clips, Kpop clips or viral videos. It looks pretty cool and tricky to pull off but with the help of the song "Pyro (extended mix)" by Chester Young and Castion, TikTokers are really perfecting their video techniques.

Mi Pan
A catchy 2010 jingle for the Russian Kellogs' cereal Honey Pops or Miel Pops has confused the heck out of TikTokers this week. Many Spanish-speaking TikTokers believed the song to be about bread, mistaking "Miel Pops" for Mi Pan" while others equated the song to a dancing llama due to one popular video. The result is a beautiful confusing mix of breads and blursed footage gracing the sound page. No regrets there.
