On July 22nd, 2020, TikToker Larri Merritt or Larray was thrown a birthday party at the hype house which was featured in various influencer's Instagram stories. That day, Twitter user and YouTuber @tyleroakley[1] tweeted, "hi @jamescharles @NikitaDragun @tanamongeau @larrayxo @charlidamelio @dixiedamelio & any others who have been partying in large groups – please consider social distancing, mask wearing, & using your huge platforms to encourage responsibility during a worldwide pandemic" (shown below, left). The tweet gained over 47,600 likes and 6,900 retweets in five days. That same day, many Twitter users began responding to "happy birthday" tweets written by those who attended the party. On July 26th, Twitter user @erikacostell,[4] who was featured in Mongeau's Instagram stories, released an apology and garnered over 5,100 likes and 460 retweets in a day.

Erika Costell @erikacostell Hey guys- I just want to apologize for the video that was posted last night on Tanas Instagram story. The comment we made was NOT intended as it was perceived. Saying "we don't care" was about our previous "beef". It was in no way related to the COVID-19 pandemic we are in. However I understand that this came off offensive during this time. It was insensitive, careless, and stupid for me to even be at a party during this pandemic. I am truly sorry to anyone I let down or upset in any way & I fully take accountability for my actions. Paige Skinner @paginaskinner james charles just uploaded a day in his life vlog where the entire day centers around going to the hype house party, but then he cuts out the footage from the party because he shouldn't have gone. i... have no words. Hi Sisters! I decided to cut the party footage from the video. Even though I have been wearing a mask in public and have tested negative multiple times, going to a party. during a pandemic was a selfish & stupid decision. People's safety and keeping COVID-19 contained is FAR more important than celebrating a friends birthday and unsafe partying is not something I want to promote to my audience. I recognize that with my platform comes responsibility, and T encourage you guys to be smarter than I was - Wear your masks and continue to social distance. Love you 17:06 / 21:56 9:09 PM · Jul 26, 2020 · Twitter Web App

Why are influencers so goddamn vapid?………I mean, you don't really have to answer that, we already know why influencers are vapid…..because they're influencers….Anywho….Can they seriously wait before throwing a 100+ person party? Are they just THAT vapid that they go "Aww man, it's been 3 hours since I attended a party. I'll just throw another one! I'll invite everyone from Instagram!" I mean again, you don't have to answer that, we already know that they're just THAT vapid.
