TikTok users have begun spreading a new slang term called "jugging," which is confusing people not familiar with its history in rap and hip-hop music.

To "jugg" is a piece of AAVE slang that's turned into a so-called "brainrot word," often combined with other new trendy terms like huzz. However, jugging has been around a lot longer than its modern counterparts.

So, where did "jugging" come from? What does it mean and how is it used in memes? Let's explain.

What Does 'Jugging' Mean?

"Jugging," or "to jugg," is a slang term for stealing. It most often means a type of robbery in which the criminal follows the victim after they withdraw money from an ATM.

Where Does 'Jugging' Come From?

"Jugging" was first added to the Urban Dictionary in 2012. The original user who added it claimed that it originates from Atlanta, Georgia slang.

This claim is in tune with some of the first rappers to use the term in their songs, like Atlanta rappers Yung Ralph and Rich Homie Quan on the 2013 track, "Juugin Round the City."

Going into the 2010s, many users, ranging from Kevin Gates to Fetty Wap used "jugg" in their lyrics.

'Jugging' Usage In Memes

The word "jugging" became a viral slang word only recently, mostly because of a meme called I Will Not Jugg In Class in which a Black Bart Simpson writes the phrase on the chalkboard.

In the past few weeks, "jugg" has been combined with other trendy words into Slang Overload memes that are ripe for the sense of humor of the chronically online.
