The internet's newest webcomic meme king, FallenChungus, has hit it out of the park with a new format, dubbed the "Literal Coolest Thing Ever." Here's the story behind the most recent FallenChungus meme, and how it sparked a discourse war about Game Grump Arin Hanson.

What Is The "Literal Coolest Thing Ever" Meme?

Since striking gold with "Bro Visited His Friend", webcomic artist FallenChungus has seen several of his comics become templates, including "He Helped Me Through A Rough Time," "Ever Heard Of Dark Humor, Buddy?" and now, the "Literal Coolest Thing Ever."

The premise of the comic is simple: it skewers that one guy who always seems to show up in online discourse about a much-beloved thing to say "actually, it fucking sucks." Coincidentally, it was posted the same day as their breakthrough "Bro Visited His Friend" comic on March 28th, 2024.

As with other FallenChungus comics, it became a meme through a series of exploitable edits, with people tweaking the comic to make a variety of jokes.

How Did The Comic Get Associated With Arin Hanson?

Perhaps one of the most infamous "This sucks, actually" guys online, at least among a certain subset of gamers, is Arin Hanson, aka Egoraptor and one half of the popular Let's Play channel Game Grumps.

Ten years ago, Hanson released a "Sequelitis" episode about The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, widely considered one of the greatest games of all time, in which he harshly criticized it, saying it was far rougher than people think, especially compared to earlier, 2D Zelda titles. The video became something of a legend, racking up over 13 million views in ten years.

The video still sticks in people's memory, and on May 13th, Twitter user @gillythekidYT struck gold by editing FallenChungus' comic to be about Hanson and Ocarina of Time.

This opened a whole can of worms, as other users began recalling times Hanson took issue with things that were mostly well-liked, such as Sr Pelo's "Storytime" animation parody and Sonic Adventure.

The memes at Hanson's expense have led to discourse about Arin Hanson as a contrarian, with some users coming to his defense and others claiming he single-handedly turned the world against Sonic the Hedgehog.
