Look Man He Helped Me Through a Very Tough Time refers to an exploitable webcomic in which one character defends their friend to a third party as they confess their love for CP, saying that the friend helped him through a tough time and means a lot to him so the third party has to respect it. The comic was posted by artist and X user @fallenchungus in early November 2023 and became the subject of photoshops in which the characters' outfits are altered to represent characters from various fandoms.

Origin

On November 7th, 2023, X^[1] user and artist @fallenchungus posted a comic in which one character confesses, "I love CP" and a second character, standing in front of the first, defends them, captioned, "look man he helped me through a very tough time so he means a lot to me okay you just gotta respect it." A third character wearing a hat that reads "cool" looks uncomfortable. The post gained over 19,700 likes in a month before it was deleted with the creator's account.

Spread

The meme gained viral spread over the following weeks, inspiring photoshops in which outfits are added to the characters to represent those from various fandoms. For example, on November 7th, 2023, X^[2] user @shorknotshork posted a version of the meme referencing One Piece, garnering over 7,000 likes in a month (shown below, left). That same day, X^[3] user @MugiwaraBobert posted a Dragon Ball version of the meme that gained over 8,200 likes in the same span of time (shown below, right).

On November 8th, the original meme was reposted to iFunny,^[4] garnering around 400 smiles in a month. That day, X^[5] user @phantozone posted a version of the meme referencing Mega Man, garnering over 1,000 likes in a month (shown below). On November 10th, Instagram^[6] user trf.mp4 posted another Dragon Ball version of the meme, garnering over 3,000 likes in a month.
