The Week in Memes: May 24th, 2019
Each week, the Know Your Meme staff tirelessly digs through the vast and all-consuming waste of the internet in order to document all the memes and viral phenomenon you so desperately crave. Believe or not, most of what we find is trash, so we've taken it upon ourselves to curate a weekly list of the best content the web has to offer.
In this week's meme news, Tesla hired an "absolute unit" memer, the ProJared scandal got even weirder, bowling screen animations triggered the internet's nostalgia, Moby creeped out Natalie Portman and the final Game of Thrones HBO episode was meme'd into oblivion.
Tesla Hires "Absolute Unit" Memer as Social Media Manager
On Tuesday, the creator of The Museum of English Rural Life's famous "absolute unit" ram tweet, Adam Koszary, announced he had been hired as the social media manager at Elon Musk's automotive company Tesla. The two men were previously engaged in a cute Twitter exchange in which they swapped profile pictures, which may have impressed the business magnate enough to give Koszary a new job. The announcement came after a surge of memes mocked Musk for commenting on PornHub videos while his company stock tanked.
So I have more news:I'm no longer moving to the Royal Academy.Instead, I'll be Tesla's Social Media Manager from July.

The ProJared Saga Continues
Earlier this month, YouTuber Jared Knabenbauer, better known by his online handle ProJared, announced he and his wife Heidi O’Ferrall were getting a divorce. O’Ferrall responded by posting a series of tweets accusing Knabenbauer of cheating on her with YouTuber Holly Conrad, the ex-wife of Game Grumps member Ross O’Donovan. Additionally, she accused Knabenbauer of soliciting nudes from fans on Snapchat, some of whom were allegedly under the age of 18. Knabenbaeuer subsequently saw a massive drop in subscribers on YouTube, leading him to respond by claiming O’Ferrall had insisted upon having an open marriage and that she had been seeing other partners as well. The internet soap opera culminated in Conrad corroborating his account in a series of tweets featuring screenshots of text messages allegedly sent by O'Ferrall. Stay tuned for the next episode in this social media drama series, who knows where it will end up next.
The Bowling Alley Screen When You Get a Strike
Memes referencing the bizarre CGI animations displayed on bowling alley screens to congratulate players who knock down a strike exploded over the last week across Reddit and Twitter. Any 3D animations that looked like they came straight out of the 90s fit right in with this gag, leading internet users to dig up some surreal masterpieces.

Moby Insists He Actually Dated Natalie Portman
After the recording artist Moby claimed he had a brief romance with actress Natalie Portman in his recently released memoir Then It Fell Apart, the actress told the magazine Harper's Bazaar that she interpreted their relationship as "a much older man being creepy with me when I just had graduated high school." Moby has since posted photographs of himself with Portman as evidence that the two were an item, though many online have mocked his response as cringey and bizarre.
The Game of Thrones Final Episode
Spoilers ahead!
The final episode of the HBO medieval fantasy show Game of Thrones was the talk of the town online, though many viewers expressed disappointment with how the show ended. Leading up to the finale, memes mocking the direction writers David Benioff and Daniel Brett Weiss had taken the series spread like wildfire and some questioned whether they were even trying after a Starbucks cup accidentally made an appearance on the show. The final episode confused many with the crowning of Bran the Broken, the burning of the Iron Throne and Daenerys' seemingly rushed descent into madness.
